What are Generators?
Generators serve as alternative fuel sources to the tedious and often risky task of manual fueling. Every 30 minutes to an hour, generators will replenish every base that their faction owns by the amount shown on the
genlist command. The output is based on the condition of the generator. Therefore, if you want to irritate another faction, damage their generators if you can't claim them for yourself.
Viewing Generators
In-Game via Genlist
The list of generators may be viewed with the
genlist command, aliased to
.gen if you have the default macro set (0) added. Information shown includes the generator's ID on the map, its owner, its location, the range from you to the generator (shown only if you're out on the map), its condition, status, and output.
Alternatively, you may see an ASCII map of the generators using the
genlist/map command, aliased to
.genl if you have the default macro set (0) added. Each generator is color coded based on the owner.
The Web-Based Map
Perhaps the clearest option for viewing objectives is the web-based map. You may toggle various options to view different kinds of objectives (in addition to bases and warps), and do a few other neat things. This image is generated in real-time and also has a mode that just displays terrain, useful for learning your way around the map.
There are a few symbols you'll need to know:
- Squares are bases. Big colored circles are bases currently being claimed by the faction represented by the circle's color.
- Diamonds are generators.
- Circles are relays
Also of note:
- The numbers inside the objectives are the objective's number. If you look at the
baselist,
relaylist, and
genlist commands, you'll see numbers besides the names.
Claiming Generators
Claiming a generator is as simple as destroying it. However, generators are armed, much more so than relay towers as they have the potential to turn the tide of a battle. Once you destroy a generator, it is transferred to your faction's ownership and remains destroyed from a period of 15-30 minutes. After or during this period of time, if there are no enemies within 15 hexes, the generator will be restored and restarted into active service.
Repairing Generators
Like relay towers, generators will repair themselves if left alone for awhile. Generators are only eligible to be restored if there are no enemy units within 15 hexes of it.
