Battletech: The Frontier Lands

Outfits are small four-man groups of players that are hired out by the different factions. The members are constant across redistributions and you are guaranteed to end up with the same faction that your Outfit mates are in.

Why Join an Outfit?

Currently, the benefits are largely just communication and staying in the same faction. Each outfit has its own channel (reachable by typing of <message> if you're in one) and its own roster.

Note: In the future, there will be more benefits to being in an outfit such as special carrier units and requestables.

Joining an Outfit

The easiest way to find an outfit is to join one that's already formed or is in the process of being formed. So, decide whether you'd like to join an established outfit, or assist in creating a new one.

Joining an Established Outfit

If you'd like to join an established outfit, use the outfits command to see which outfits are currently around. You may then use the Image:Command.gif outfit command to see the various outfit related commands. It's usually a good idea to get in touch with outfit commanders before applying via Image:Command.gif outfit/apply.

As an example, if I wanted to join an outfit numbered 32 called: Benjy's Bonghounds

outfit/apply 32

Withdrawing an Application

You may at any time withdraw your application to an outfit by typing outfit/withdraw. This only works if you have an active application and you haven't already been hired.

Leaving an Outfit

You may leave an outfit by typing Image:Command.gif outfit/leave.

Creating an Outfit

You may type Image:Command.gif outfit/create <outfitname> to create an outfit. After your outfit is created and ready, type Image:Command.gif outfit and you'll see a bunch of new commands with descriptions. You may also look at Image:Command.gif help outfit for even more detailed instructions. You'll want to begin filling your roster as soon as possible to ensure your outfit's prosperity.

Hiring Rules

Currently you may hire people that are either Unaffiliated or in the same faction as you. New players are given a chance between rolling a random faction or joining an outfit at character generation, so make sure you tell anyone you bring on the site to join your outfit rather than randomly place into a faction.

Outfit Points

Outfit points are earned by the member at a going rate of 10 XP = 1 Outfit points. You are awarded these each time you return from RealSpace. These are currently more for show but will eventually allow your outfit to make purchases and upgrades. They are also how outfits are ranked on the Outfit Rankings Page.

You may see how many outfit points you have earned your outfit (as well as the rest of your outfit members) by typing Image:Command.gif outfit/roster.

Outfit Commands

Most of the commands that don't change anything are available from anywhere in the game. Those that actually manipulate your outfit may only be done by the Squad Interface in the Diplomatic Quarter of the Spaceport. Outfit Upgrades

In the Spaceport in the Commerical District is a shop named Randis Outfitters. From there, outfit commanders may purchase upgrades and additional "goodies" for their outfit. Simply Image:Command.gif look at the interface in there and follow the instructions. You may see your outfit's credit level via the Image:Command.gif census/outfit command (lower right corner).

Outfit Hangar

The outfit hangar upgrade gives your outfit a place to congregate, as well as store your Limited Availability Units for collective use. This acts as a bank of sorts, which you may freely deposit/withdraw units from.

See the outfit command listing for a complete run-down of the commands, or the Image:Command.gif outfit command in-game. The hangar commands will only be visible if your outfit has a hangar.
