What are Relay Towers?

Relay Towers serve as means of firming up your faction's grip on territory. Relays are armed buildings that extend radio range, defend territory, and serve as forward lookout posts. Additionally, if an enemy unit approaches a relay, your faction is notified of its presence.

How to use in the field

While in your mech cruisin around and your relay reports possible contacts on your recon channel. Type: tscan <relay id>. To find your relay's id type: relays. Once you do this, it will show you all (if any) contacts that the relay has LOS on.

Viewing Relay Towers

In-Game via Relaylist

The list of relays may be viewed with the Image:Command.gif relaylist command, aliased to Image:Command.gif .rel if you have the default macro set (0) added. Information shown includes the relay's ID on the map, its owner, its location, the range from you to the generator (shown only if you're out on the map), its condition, and status.

Alternatively, you may see an ASCII map of the relays using the Image:Command.gif relaylist/map command, aliased to Image:Command.gif .relm if you have the default macro set (0) added. Each relaylist is color coded based on the owner.

The Web-Based Map

Example map display

Perhaps the clearest option for viewing objectives is the web-based map. You may toggle various options to view different kinds of objectives (in addition to bases and warps), and do a few other neat things. This image is generated in real-time and also has a mode that just displays terrain, useful for learning your way around the map.

There are a few symbols you'll need to know:

  • Squares are bases. Big colored circles are bases currently being claimed by the faction represented by the circle's color.
  • Diamonds are generators.
  • Circles are relays

Also of note:

  • The numbers inside the objectives are the objective's number. If you look at the Image:Command.gif baselist, Image:Command.gif relaylist, and Image:Command.gif genlist commands, you'll see numbers besides the names.

Visiting Relays

The Image:Command.gif relay command is available in your respawn room and will show you how to access the various relays you own. You may also enter one of the relays by following the instructions shown on the command. This is useful to see what's going on out on in various areas around the map.

Claiming Relays

Claiming a relay is as simple as destroying it. However, relays are armed, but less so in comparison to Generators. Once you destroy a relay, it is transferred to your faction's ownership and remains destroyed from a period of 15-30 minutes. After or during this period of time, if there are no enemies within 15 hexes, the relay will be restored and restarted into active service.

Repairing Relays

Like Generators towers, relays will repair themselves if left alone for awhile. Relays are only eligible to be restored if there are no enemy units within 15 hexes of it.
