Site Frontier:Spawn Room
From BattletechMUX
The spawn room serves as the hub of all activity on the Frontier. From here players may choose and spawn, purchase, and sell units, visit the spaceport or any of your faction's relays. Spawn rooms are also where most players congregate when not out in RealSpace.

Spawning
Spawning is the loose name we've slapped on the process of getting your mech out into the field. There are several different ways to spawn, all of which we will outline below. Spawning might seem a bit daunting at first, but it is easy once you get the hang of it.
Selecting a Unit
The first thing you'll need to do is decide which unit in your posession you'd like to spawn. Use the
stats command and look under the Mechs section. You may Use the
setmech <ref> command to select any of your units, along with Rental/Single Death Mechs. If you'd like to see the stats of any of your units, you may do one of the following:
- viewref <ref>
- Shows a status display for the specified unit.
- viewref/specs <ref>
- Shows a unit's stats.
Replacing <ref> with the name of the unit, of course. Make sure you pay attention to the Spawn Cost field on
viewref/specs, we'll go over the importance of this later. Once you have decided on a unit, type
setmech <ref>, where <ref> is the unit you'd like to spawn.
Spawning from Bases
Bases are the most common places to spawn from, as they will typically get you to where the battles are, or somewhere nearby. Take a look at the page on bases before going any further, particularly the section on fuel usage.
With that in mind, pick a base from
listresp and type
respawn <#>, where <#> is the base number you'd like to spawn from.
| | Note: The base must have enough fuel for your unit in order for it to spawn. If the base runs too low on fuel before you spawn, you will be sent back to the spawn room. |
| | Tip: Be courteous when choosing a mech to spawn with. If your one large unit is going to suck all of the remaining fuel in a base, consider taking one less draining on the base's resources. |
Spawning from the Officer-Selected Hotbase
The Commands and Officers of your faction have the ability to set a hotbase, or a designated point for the rest of the faction to spawn from. The
respawn/hotbase command will spawn you from this selected base. This is good since it keeps everyone going in the same direction.
Spawning from your Faction's HQ
Each faction has a base on the map that is un-claimable and has unlimited fuel. This is referred to as a faction's HeadQuarters (HQ). Spawning from an HQ is much faster than any of the other means and requires no fuel, but is often not close to where the action is. To see where your faction's HQ is, use the
baselist command, look on the very bottom.
To spawn from your faction's HQ, simply type
respawn/home.
Orbital Dropping
Orbital Dropping (OOD'ing) is perhaps the fastest way to get somewhere on the map, but is also the riskiest. This method involves booting your unit out of a transport at 400z, where it falls to the surface, meanwhile being vunerable to enemy fire and breach of the protective cocoon. OOD'ing uses your C-Bills rather than a base's fuel. You can see how much a given unit costs to Orbital Drop via the
viewref/specs <ref> command.
The Importance of 'Leavebase'
After using a
respawn command, you'll be sent to the spawning chamber and eventually end up in your unit. You'll notice that there is a timer on the bottom of your unit's internal description. Once this reaches 0, you may use the
leavebase command to get to the map. If you'd like to see how the timer is progressing, type
look to see it update.
Returning to Base
If your unit survives on the field, there are a few different ways to get it back inside in one piece. You generally want to try to do this, especially if you're using a Rental Unit.
Entering a base via 'rtb'
One of the simplest way to get back inside is to stand on a base or HQ belonging to your faction and type
rtb. Make sure to sit still and remain standing and you'll eventually arrive back in your spawn room.
Hot extraction via 'extract'
If you're a bit far from a base or just really lazy, you can initiate an extraction via the
extract command. You may only do this if there are no enemies within 25 hexes of your unit. Make sure to remain still when extracting.
Self-Destruction
This is the last resort for getting back in the spawn room. If you're in a mech, you may use the
explode reactor or
explode ammo commands to destroy yourself. If you're in a vehicle or other unit type, you may
selfdestruct. If you are in a rental unit, it will be lost.
