Skills, Stats, Attributes, and Advantages
From BattletechMUX
Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages are special characteristics that your character possess that make him or her more able to perform certain roles. On the other side of the spectrum, disadvantages are hindrances your character has to deal with. This is there largely to add some diversity and allow for some specialization. Advantages are typically acquired in character creation.
You may view your advantages by using the stats or @pl command.
Toughness
Best 2/3 rolls on Conscious Rolls.
Result: You are less likely to be knocked unconscious in combat.
Pain Resistance
+1 to Conscious Roll BTH.
Only 1 damage from ammo explosions.
Result: You are more likely to be rendered unconscious, but are hurt less by ammo explosions.
Sixth Sense
Notification of all locks.
Result: You see an emit when someone locks you. The message varies based on the enemy's tonnage.
Dodge Maneuver
Use of the 'Dodge' Command (+2 BTH for physicals for those attacking you).
Result: You are harder to be hit with a physical while dodging.
Maneuvering Ace
Allows laterals in non-VTOL units at better BTH than normal.
Allows use of the 'turnmode <tight|normal>' command.
Result: You may move laterally in non-VTOL units easier and you can change your turning style to be much sharper at the cost of losing more speed whilst doing so.
Melee Specialist
Your physical attacks have -1 to attacker movement mods (lowest is 0) which can lessen/negate walking running BTH mods.
Increase physical damage by +1.
Result: You're better at performing physical attacks on people and you hit harder when you do.
Speed Demon
When sprinting, +1 movement points to run speed.
Slower turn-rates that normally apply to sprinting are negated.
Result: You go faster while sprinting than those without this advantage, and you turn at normal rates, instead of the slower sprinting rate.
Stats
Stats are basically a physical and mental definition of your character. For example, characters with better reflexes are likely to be better gunners. Those with a higher 'Learn' stat are likely to learn at a higher rate. Stats also affect your ability to use certain skills. Those skills that you have not yet acquired do not show up on stats. Such stats are utilized at a default level based on the Stat that coincides with the skill. For example, if you have high reflexes but haven't earned a point in Gunnery-Flamer, it would be assumed that you can get in and at least shoot somewhat straight with it (more so than a slower character).
Stats may range anywhere from 1-12+. The stats on the left side are your basic stats and serve as a sort of 'independent variable' in the equation of your character. Your secondary stats to the right are 'dependent' on your primary stats. The formula to determine your secondary physical stats are as follows:
* Build |
* Athletic = (18 - Build - Reflexes) |
You may usually view your stats using the stats or @pl command.
Skills
Skills are what define your character's ability to perform various actions, be it firing at that pesky enemy mech or fixing the units your pilot buddies manage to smash up all too often. You can then become better in those skills, set out to learn new ones, or both.
There are quite a few skills, and some aren't even really used. For this reason, I will only list what -IS- used. This will be updated as more skills are utilized. These are out of order, if there is a specific skill you are looking for, you may be better of doing a search on it using your web browser.
You may usually view your skills using the stats or @pl command.
